| View of the lime kilns at Singleton Birch Ltd |
![]() |
| A view of the lime kilns at Singleton Birch Ltd
taken from New Barnetby village. The yellow flowers just in
front of the railway line are mainly Ragwort. Singleton Birch
Ltd are a quarrying company and are the largest employers in the
area. What appears to be smoke emitting from the kiln chimneys
is in fact steam that is created during the process of burning the
chalk stone to make lime. This steam is clean and dust free
and does no harm to the atmosphere. |
